500 Days of Summer Writers Take on Beginner’s Greek

Warner Bros Pictures has acquired the big screen adaptation of James Collins‘ novel Beginner’s Greek. I Love You Man, Observe and Report and Green Lantern producer Donald De Line has hired 500 Days of Summer screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to pen the adaptation. If I had a list of new screenwriters to watch, Neustadter and Weber would definitely be on the top of the list. If you’ve seen 500 Days of Summer, than you know why these guys are getting so much buzz around Hollywood. — Slashfilm
Beginner’s Greek is available in hardcover for $16 on Amazon. The review from Amazon.com is after the jump.
July 21st, 2009Director Marc Webb Guest Blogging – #3

500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb has been guest blogging over at FirstShowing.net. In his latest entry, “Internet Wormholes”, he talks about social media and how modern filmmakers like himself and the 500 Days screenwriters are using it. As an obsessed fan blogger, I can personally relate to a lot of what Marc goes into but he puts things into perspective well.
We read EVERYTHING. And most younger filmmakers I know do the same. It’s both exhilarating and maddening. Sometimes you want to pat someone on the back and sometimes you want to punch someone in the face. But at the end of the day – it’s just too enticing to go down the 500 Days of Summer internet wormhole. (What people reveal on Twitter is amazing – I know exactly who stole the poster from the Union Square theater.)

It feels so good to finally have the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack in my iTunes library. I’m giving it my first listen through now. Of course I really can’t wait to throw in the CD and go for a drive on a nice Summer day or night with the windows down.

July 14th, 2009Happy 500 Days of Summer Release Week!
It’s only Tuesday and already this week has been crazy for me. I just got home from NYC where I had an amazing time interviewing the incredibly down to earth director Marc Webb. If you were following my twitter you’d know my flight got delayed three hours and I missed the entire screening on Monday night(!)… however I just made it on time for the Wall Street Journal discussion that followed the screening with Webb and screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber. Zooey Deschanel, who was supposed to be there as well, had to cancel last minute but said hello to the audience via prerecorded video. The creators of 500 Days of Summer are hilarious, modest guys and I am so excited for them for the release of the film this Friday.
500 Days of Summer goodness that has popped up over the past couple days:
• Video: Film clip from 500 Days of Summer, Day (1) of (500), from Inside Searchlight
• Article: Director Marc Webb Grilled (The Wrap). Great quote: “no one will claim to be a hipster, and if they do, you should punch them in the face.”
• Article: Gordon-Levitt moves on to romantic comedy (SFGate)
• Article: 500 Days Of Summer Scribes Tell Us Why ‘This Is Not A Love Story’ (Latino Review). Interview with Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber.
I hope to get my interview with Marc Webb up asap. For now, here’s a photo of me and the man. Thanks again, Marc, I had such a blast and it was great to talk to you.
