Has (500) Days of Summer Made A Fan Out of You?
500 Days of Summer has begun its limited release as of midnight today. Congratulations to screenwriters Michael Weber and Scott Neustadter and director Marc Webb on his first feature film! Joesph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel have been receiving rave reviews. My newspaper, The National Post, published their review of 500 Days of Summer this morning: “(500) Days of Summer: What’s not to love?”. Enough said!

Zooey Deschanel’s List of Summertime Activities in Self

Although Deschanel is busy this month promoting her latest film, 500 Days of Summer (nice coincidence, right?); working on the second album by her band, She & Him; and planning her wedding to Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, she’s eager to make the most of the season. “You can’t force fun,” she says, “but you can set up situations where fun will happen to you.”

July 14th, 2009Happy 500 Days of Summer Release Week!
It’s only Tuesday and already this week has been crazy for me. I just got home from NYC where I had an amazing time interviewing the incredibly down to earth director Marc Webb. If you were following my twitter you’d know my flight got delayed three hours and I missed the entire screening on Monday night(!)… however I just made it on time for the Wall Street Journal discussion that followed the screening with Webb and screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber. Zooey Deschanel, who was supposed to be there as well, had to cancel last minute but said hello to the audience via prerecorded video. The creators of 500 Days of Summer are hilarious, modest guys and I am so excited for them for the release of the film this Friday.
500 Days of Summer goodness that has popped up over the past couple days:
• Video: Film clip from 500 Days of Summer, Day (1) of (500), from Inside Searchlight
• Article: Director Marc Webb Grilled (The Wrap). Great quote: “no one will claim to be a hipster, and if they do, you should punch them in the face.”
• Article: Gordon-Levitt moves on to romantic comedy (SFGate)
• Article: 500 Days Of Summer Scribes Tell Us Why ‘This Is Not A Love Story’ (Latino Review). Interview with Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber.
I hope to get my interview with Marc Webb up asap. For now, here’s a photo of me and the man. Thanks again, Marc, I had such a blast and it was great to talk to you.

“Instant Chemistry, Belated Dance Number”
A fantastic article in the New York Times, written by Margy Rochlin:
In this moment, as the three joked easily with one another, it’s not hard to see why Mr. Webb knew immediately that Ms. Deschanel, who exudes a deadpan, off-kilter confidence, and Mr. Gordon-Levitt, who is subdued and earnest, would have a quiet, screwball chemistry. “To me the theme of this movie is that happiness lies not in the big, blue eyes of the beautiful girl,” Mr. Webb said.
Great writing and insight.

July 5th, 2009Zooey Deschanel: Melody Maker

I was lucky enough to catch this full page article in the Movies section of National Post (Canada.) It’s an article that praises Zooey Deschanel and discusses some personal details of her life. (Sorry guys, she’s engaged–though they haven’t set a date…)
